Sucess with a Social Purpose

Twenty years ago Susan Barton was working in an orphanage in Sri Lanka. There, she took to a baby that was severely malnourished and realized that even though it wasn’t her child, she had a responsibility to this baby. Her life would never be the same. At that moment her path to becoming a Social Entrepreneur Success began.

She nursed this child all afternoon and looked into the baby’s eyes all afternoon. Later on that night she found out the baby died of malnutrition. This experience rocked her soul. She says she was “just a naive girl from the suburbs” and she came back to Australia a very different girl. She started fostering every child she could upon her return. Soon, she attended Money & You^® and saw her own home (used as a foster home) turn into an Australia-wide Charity, the Lighthouse Foundation, responsible for saving over 500 young homeless.

RIGHT PEOPLE - RIGHT ROLES using DISC Personal and Job Profiles

Here’s some PeopleSmart, People-Reading tips for recognizing people:

When you see someone, take a few minutes to observe them. You have a 50% chance of getting their primary style right when you ASK YOURSELF: “Is this person more…

a. DIRECT? (Active / outgoing?) “D”ominance or“I”nfluence -

OR are they… or INDIRECT? (Reserved?) “S”teadiness or “C”onscientious/Compliance

If DIRECT - are they more COMPETITIVE and MAKING DEALS? (They are a High “D” So give them authority and in charge of the problems or projects!)

OR - are they more TALKATIVE and INTERACTIVE? (They are more likely a High “I” –

Be friendly back to them and let them interact with others.)

If INDIRECT, are THEY spending more time LISTENING and DOING? (They have a lot of High “S” Steadiness in their style – so give them roles that allow them to steady the pace of the environment – and don’t rock the boat!

Are more INDIRECT, quietly OBSERVING and THINKING? (We call these the High “C”s for Compliance.

Let them gather the facts and make sure everyone is following to the rules.

With practice and just these four questions, you will soon be able to “read” their instinctive style which gives you the potential for more power in your communications with them.
